This is helpful, although I have gotten most of it through the much longer process of reading all sorts of stuff from Medicare and various on-line materials.
Because we live in MN, our choices are different from the A-L choices; we have two basic choices, often with variables on each. There are also many Medicare Advantage “cost plans” that are more like supplements than like HMOs, although I am having difficulty knowing just how to compare them. The best of the cost plans in MN are Health Partners, Blue Cross, and Medica–as rated by local studies and organizations.
We currently have a supplement that we purchase from my former employer, which seems to be to be something better than MN’s basic plan and not quite as extensive as the gold-plated version. Our covereage isn’t overly expensive (about $600 per month for the two of us) but it isn’t as economical as some of the “cost plans”.
Finally, I can’t seem to get quotes online from many of the supplements that do business in MN, nor have I even heard from many of the companies who sell in MN (I got a list from Medicare.gov). I could use some help on that.
